Check Fraud Protection

Protect Yourself Against Check Fraud

Here are some things that you should do to help protect yourself against check fraud:

  • Use checks that include Enhanced Check Security Features. These checks will have a small padlock icon following the word “Dollars” on the front of the check. This ensures that at least three security features are included in the check, one of which must protect against counterfeiting and one of which that will protect against alteration.
  • Do not have your Social Security or driver’s license number imprinted on the checks. Combined with other information on the check, this could give a thief enough information to apply for a loan, credit card or phoney bank account in your name.
  • Reconcile your account statements each month and immediately notify your financial institution of any suspicious or unauthorized checks or withdrawals.
  • Treat your checkbook like you treat money. Guard your checkbook and report lost or stolen checks immediately.
  • Notify your bank or credit union if you order checks and don’t receive them in a reasonable amount of time, or if checks are missing.
  • Don’t leave blank spaces on the payee and amount lines. Write details as close together as possible, avoid abbreviations and draw lines to fill any gaps. Otherwise, it’s easy to alter your check. A check payable to IBM, for example, could be changed to read I.B. Moony.
  • Use dark ink, never light colors or pencil that can be easily erased or covered over.
  • Don’t make a check payable to “Cash.” If it is lost or stolen, it can be cashed by anyone.
  • Never endorse a check until you are ready to cash or deposit it. Preferably, deposited checks should be endorsed “For deposit only” and your account number should be included. That way, if the check is lost or stolen it can’t be cashed.
  • Don’t throw out cancelled checks, unused deposit slips, old bank statements, or credit card and ATM receipts. Tear them into at least eight pieces and destroy them as best you can, and consider using a shredder. A thief could use these items to make new checks.
  • Don’t give your checking account number from your cheap quickbooks checks the numbers at the bottom of your checks to people you don’t know. Never give out your checking account number over the telephone or the Internet unless you agree to pay for something, and suspect fraud if a telemarketer says a checking account number is needed. Reveal checking account information only to businesses you know to be reputable.

When deciding on how many  Business Checks to purchase there are a few options to choose from. There is checks on the top and then there is checks in the middle and then a full page of checks.

While making that decision try to choose the amount that will best suit your business and record system. If you write a lot of checks then you should choose the full page of checks. But if you write checks but not many then you should choose either checks on top or middle, which ever you believe would best suit your business.

How does your business grow? Theirs so many ways that you can make a business grow. You can advertise, but that will only go so far. Advertising is good for your business, but it dont tell your customers really how good you are though. Blogs is a very efficient way, and it will keep new customers coming, and repeats as well. Some of the customers are just a one time looker or shopper.

The best way of having your business to grow is by word of mouth. It tells others how impressed they were with your services or products. It will allow new customers to come and buy your cheap business checks for their businesses. It can take a while before you can get a large company to buy your products. Most sales will come from local companies, that will be repeat orders. Slow growth is the best way to have your business to grow. If your business grows to fast, it could fail quickly.

When choosing your Business checks, take a good look at your business logo and decide first what color check would help your logo to be one of the first things noticed. Then you want to choose the right spot where your logo should go or if you want to have it watermarked.

You can also create a customized message to place over the signature line, something that will make it more personable. Choose a text that would accent your logo nicely, so the customer likes what they see. There are several things you can do, but most importantly just make sure that you are happy with the final product before you approve your order.

Have a back up for your business

Do you have several back up plans for your business? Do you back up your documents to a DVD/CD and have them stored in a safety deposit box? Do you have a backup for your power in case of power loss? Having a back up plan can really save your business and time. If you loose your data, or it got stolen…then what would you do if you didn’t have a backup.

When your running a business, its very important to have all types of backup. If you need to obtain a copy of your cheap business checks, to see what has cleared, then you need to be able to retrieve that easily. Some banks will charge you a fee to get a copy of that cleared check. That can cost you time and money. If you have a generator for backup, it will prevent your business from being down during a storm or what ever the case may be.

Are you writing too many personal size checks?  Why not convert personal check to business size checks? There was one time i was writing over 100 personal checks a month. I didnt have high speed internet so i could pay them on line. I came up with the idea of finding a company that could convert the personal check, to business size, and print them with quicken.

Its easy to convert them to checks on top. All you have to do is order the business size checks, and send a copy of your voided personal check to them. One common question is…what is the difference? Personal accounts has their check numbers onto the right of the account number. You can do the same thing on a business size check. If the check number is on the left side of the routing number, then its a business checking account. Checks on top, can be used for quicken (personal use), quickbooks (business accounts), or you can use 3 up (three checks to a page)

When you are checking into purchasing checks that are not from the bank, make sure that the checks have up to date Security Features. It is important and the checks are following all the “New Check 21 Laws” and doing this will make it easier on the Banks as well.

Safety is definitely the key to having success with anything.  And checking out all that you can do to your checks to make them the safest is very wise, and will potentially help you out in the long run.

What is the difference with peachtree vs. quicbook business checks? There is alot of difference between both type of business checks. Peachtree business checks, uses the checks in middle. Peachtree checks are available with over 10 styles/colors to select from. Keep in mind you can still print your own checks, or have someone else to do it for you. Cheap business checks are just low in prices, but still high in quality. Peacthree checks can use 4 different styles of imprinting. Theirs others programs that uses checks in middle as well.

Quickbooks checks, can use the same colors/styles, but it would be check on top. You can use 3 to a page (full page of checks), but limited colors are available because its not used alot. With the quickbooks or peachtree checks, you can have the lines printed onto them or not. Another option is to have one or two signature lines imprinted on to the checks. Before you buy checks, find out what kind your program is going to need first.

Have you ever been to the bank and realize that you are out of deposit slips? I know I have, and then you have to go through the hassle of getting a blank one and remembering your account number and so forth. Well when you get order your own slips, you have the security of knowing that all the information on it is right and you wont have to worry about running out of them either.

When you are choosing the right deposit slip for you, remember to choose the kind that will make it the most easy on you. You can have blank slips that you fill in what you want, or you can have some that are already filled out with all your information on them. There are so many options now a days, and it can be overwhelming. Just take your time and weigh all the options before you choose.

Needing to order business Checks?

When deciding on what checks to order, it can be tedious and also confusing, especially when you are new at it like I am. I have found that it is always best to start off simple and then work your way up to doing more. Just remember that there are always more choices then you may actually need but look at them all before you make your final decision.

Also remember when choosing your colors, and print that it match what your business feel is. You can even put our own logo onto  the check to make it more professional. Make sure it is uploaded in a JPEG or BMP format in order for it to work. And remember when you approve the order to double check that all the information is correct because there could be a simple mistake that could throw the whole order off, and if you approve the order and the information was wrong and it was printed, then you will end up spending double the money because then you will have to re- place the order.

I get asked this question all the time. What is the most popular business check do you use? Well it depends on the program though. Do you use quickbooks, or peachtree accounting? Those are the most popular two accounting program on the market. Both programs can use the same style or color.

The marble blue, is the most popular color on the market. I sell at least 10,000 qty a month at least of that color. You can order the marble blue business check for both programs. The Marble blue business check is available for checks on top that quickbooks uses. The marble blue check in middle is for quickbooks. After the marble blue, it would be the marble burgundy then green.

Sales slow? Use discounts. Everyone right now is feeling the pinch across the board. Ga unemployment just hit a new high. It has hit 10.5%. The economy is affecting everyone and not much we can do to help to get an increase in sales. Well…why not try to offer your customers discounts on certain items.

Offering discounts does help. When your prices are already low and very competitive against others, if you offer the discounts on certain price levels, or a combined purchased items, it will help you to make the sale, and the customer will buy it. You can try to offer the discounts for the week, day, or month. Offer discounts if they are buying a combination of business checks, envelopes and deposit tickets.
