If you upgrade your web page, you can see a huge impact it may create. Have you ever seen the home page of a web page, and it looked OK, then come back and it was like WOW. Upgrading your website can really have a huge impact on your business and shows what you can do and offer. Use more pictures and equal text to make it outstanding.

By upgrading your site, your also upgrading your business. The saying, cant judge a book by its cover…that is true. Looking at Christmas lights from the road is very nice and pretty. accounting

While in college I was required to take basic level accounting courses. We were taught all of the basics, like A/P, A/R and other general accounting principles. Although I still feel that this information is important to know, I’ve realized how easy accounting software makes the whole process.

When I first learned about the software I felt like I was being introduced to a calculator for the first time. Instead of filling out seemingly endless forms with the same information, the software did all of the work for you. Not only that, but it also ensured that the books were balanced and helped locate any discrepancies.

Bank failures stack up: Now 106 for 2009

Banks in Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin, were shuttered, costing the FDIC an estimated $356.6 million.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) — The tally of bank failures easily broke past the No. 100 milestone on Friday night, with regulators announcing the year’s 106th closure.

That’s more than four times the number that were closed in 2008, and the highest total since 1992, when 181 banks failed.

Earlier on Friday evening the dubious honor of the 100th failure went to Partners Bank, of Naples, Fla., which had $65.5 million in assets, according to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.

The 101st failure was American United Bank, of Lawrenceville, Ga., which had $111 million in assets.

The 102nd failure was another Naples, Fla., institution: Hillcrest Bank Florida, which had $83 million in assets.

The 103rd closure was Bradenton, Fla.-based Flagship National Bank, with $190 million in assets.

The 104th was Bank of Elmwood, based in Racine, Wis., which had $327.4 million in assets.

The 105th failure was Riverview Community Bank of Otsego, Minn., with $108 million in assets.

The 106th failure was First Dupage Bank in Westmont, Ill., which had $279 million in assets.

Customers of all seven banks are protected, however. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., which has insured bank deposits since the Great Depression, covers customer accounts up to $250,000. This is funded through premiums paid by member banks.

In fact, to reassure borrowers, FDIC chair Sheila Bair posted a video message to the agency’s Web site, saying “for the insured depositor, a bank failure is a non-event.”

Still, Bair cautioned that “until the healing process is complete, there will be more bank failures.”

What happens to the banks. Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based Stonegate Bank will assume control of all Partners Bank’s $64.9 million in deposits. It will also take over Hillcrest Bank’s $84 million in deposits. The two branches of Partners Bank and six branches of Hillcrest will reopen on Monday as branches of Stonegate.

Moultrie, Ga.-based Ameris Bank will pay the FDIC a premium of 1.02% to take control of American United’s $101 million in deposits. The FDIC and Ameris Bank entered into a loss-share transaction on $92 million of American United’s assets, an agreement in which Ameris will share in the losses on the assets covered.

The single branch of American United Bank will reopen on Monday as a branch of Ameris.

Lake City, Fla.-based First Federal Bank will take over all of Flagship National Bank’s $175 million in deposits. The four branches of Flagship will reopen Monday as branches of First Federal.

Bank of Elmwood’s $273.2 million in deposits are now controlled by Tri City National Bank, based in Oak Creek, Wis. The five branches of Bank of Elmwood will reopen on Saturday as branches of Tri City.

Stillwater, Minn.-based Central Bank will take control of Riverview Community Bank’s $80 million in deposits. The FDIC and Central Bank entered into a loss-share transaction on $75 million of Riverview’s assets.

First Dupage Bank’s $254 million in deposits are now being handled by First Midwest Bank of Itasca, Ill. The FDIC and First Midwest Bank entered into a loss-share transaction on approximately $247 million of First Dupage Bank’s assets. The sole First Dupage branch will reopn Saturday as an outpost of First Midwest.

The failure of the six banks will cost the Deposit Insurance Fund an estimated $356.6 million, according to the FDIC.

Why regional banks are failing. While larger financial institutions have received aid from the federal government, smaller banks have found themselves left adrift. Like their larger counterparts, many of these banks made risky loans to individuals and real estate developers during the boom years and are now facing large numbers of defaults as the recession drags on.

Rising unemployment has made it difficult for many individuals to keep up with expenses, and businesses are feeling the crunch of consumers’ reduced spending power. As a result, regional banks are left holding loans their customers can’t repay.

Problem banks list looms. The FDIC keeps a list of “problem banks,” though it does not disclose the names to the general public out of fear that depositors at those institutions may prompt a “run on the bank.”

In June, the agency said 416 banks were at risk of failure — the highest level in 15 years.

It’s a whopping figure, to be sure. But even as the pace of failures accelerates, 2009′s numbers remain far from what happened during the savings and loan crisis two decades ago. More than 1,900 financial institutions failed from 1987-1991, peaking at 534 closures in 1989.

Federal coffers running dry. An average of 10 banks have failed per month this year, and the federal coffer is thinning under the massive strain. The fund now stands at $7.5 billion, down significantly from $45 billion a year ago.

When the FDIC factors in expected closures, the agency says the fund is in the red and will likely remain there through 2012. Bank failure costs are expected to total $100 billion over the next four years, leaving regulators strapped for cash.

Last month, the FDIC discussed how to raise quick cash to replenish the fund. The agency proposed that banks prepay their deposit insurance premiums for the next three years. It always good to have a backup for your cheap business checks, at another bank to separate your funds, in case the main accounts get low, you’ll have a secondary backup plan.

Growing your business with Peachtree by sage

For entrepreneurs to successfully grow their businesses, they need to have the right tools to meet their changing needs. One common challenge that many small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) face is establishing a sound and scalable IT infrastructure.

For example, many SMBs meet their software needs on a piece-meal basis. Such band aid solutions can be detrimental to their business because they cannot adequately support their rapidly expanding fundamental business functions such as accounting.

Sage Software recognizes this issue and, with Peachtree 2008, provides a scalable software solution that businesses can grow with, once a sound accounting foundation has been laid.

There are some common factors as to how companies outgrow their current software:
Geography
As a business expands, multiple offices or warehouses may be added. This requires additional network infrastructure to accommodate the new locations.
Users
More employees may need access to the software. Adequate software licenses often need to be added and security controls need be able to limit access on an individual basis.
Functions
New features may be needed to accommodate business growth. Procedures like advanced job costing, inventory management and product customization may need to be added as functions.
The software challenges that many businesses face can be resolved easily. SMBs can properly prepare for their growth by anticipating their accounting needs. Initially, they must ask themselves:

• Where will this business be in a year? five years? ten years?
• How many people will be employed?
• How many locations or offices will there be?
• Will functions like payroll be in-house or outsourced?
They also need to follow accounting best practices at all times. Businesses need to become familiar with basic bookkeeping practices and standard sets of financial statements and reports. This will help monitor the health of their business.

SMBs should also consider hiring an accountant at the early stage of their business. Accountant can provide expert advice as to which reporting configuration is best and will be able to forecast future accounting needs.

Once the foundation is laid, a scalable software like Peachtree 2009 can be implemented to accommodate growth. The software provides an account reconciliation feature, detailed security settings and data backups on a daily basis.

Thanks to its scalability Peachtree has proven to be a preferred accounting solution for many growing SMBs. Even when a business outgrows the Peachtree software, accounting records can be easily integrated into other Sage Software Enterprise solutions. As customer’s requirements grow, Sage Software offers solutions to grow with them.

What kind of checks does Quickbooks uses?

Quickbooks uses 3 types of checks. Checks on top, full page of checks, and laser wallet checks. They all are customizable and differ in color and style. Checks on Top is very common check to use with quickbooks. You can find them in more variety of styles and colors than any other checks. Marble style is very popular. You can find it in blue, burgundy, green, gray, purple, tan, and teal. Theirs wave and lattice style as well.

Full page of checks are great to use, but they dont offer a stub. Its 3 business checks to a page, and if your doing rebates, its a great thing to use. That way you can get more checks out, per page. The colors and styles are limited though.

The wallet checks are used more for personal use, even though business can use them as well. They do offer the stubs on the left side of the check, and is a personal size. They are limited in style and color as well.

Make sure you have a good IT dept and backup plans

If you are running a company that requires alot of servers, its always a good idea to make sure you have a back up plan if they fail. I had encountered a problem with a vendor that their system failed, and their back up plan…..well….it wasn’t initiated at all. Most of their system and their .com was down. It had affected thousands of customers. Those customers made blogs and instant web pages talking and trashing what they had done and how it had affected their business. You couldnt even get into your admin, or the store front.

So having a backup plan for your IT department is always a good idea. IF your servers have a backup, it should be easy to transfer to the backups and continue running, so you’ll have min impact on others that run their business. I know i lost a few thousands with the mishaps that happened. I know that i have a backup plan with my Peachtree Quantum by sage accounting program. I back it up every night, and that back up has a backup.

What is the #1 place to lauch a business

MSA: Oklahoma City, OK
Best places ranking: #1 among large metro areas
Population: 1,206,142

Stable and affordable, Oklahoma City is a haven for entrepreneurial risk takers. It boasts the second lowest foreclosure rate among large U.S. metro areas, along with the second lowest median rent. Through the Great Recession this former Dust Bowl capital has been spared many hardships, with a diverse local economy spread across medical research, energy, education and government.

Oklahoma City also benefits from a high concentration of deep-pocketed local investors, many of them veterans of the oil and gas industry, who are willing to take a gamble on companies that might spend 10 years bringing a new product to fruition. And the city itself has been a powerful friend to life-science startups, funding the 1996 construction of the Presbyterian Health Foundation Research Park. The complex — 700,000 square feet of space in seven buildings on a 27-acre site — has attracted an influx of innovative biomedical firms.

Oklahoma City has its drawbacks. Among the most tornado-prone cities in America, it has the dubious distinction of getting hit in 1999 by the worst twister on record, with winds topping 320 miles per hour. And forget about entertaining your visiting clients with top-notch sporting events: Oklahoma City has only one professional franchise, the NBA’s Oklahoma City Thunder, which had its first season in 2008 and finished 26th in the league.

Having a stable and great place to lauch a business is a great starting place. It dont matter what kind of business, but just so you do it right. Having the right accounting program like Peachtree Quantum by sage.
