We all know the importance of a well-written employee handbook: it helps to define company expectations regarding performance and conduct; it serves as a means of formalizing company rules so all employees are held to the same standards; and it provides general information about the
organization as well as the benefits and services the company has to offer. There are a multitude of reasons for creating an employee
handbook. But, if developed and implemented incorrectly, it can do more harm than good. Peachtree by sage software will help you with keeping up with your employee records

Below are 10 of the most widespread employee handbook mistakes and what you can do to avoid falling into the “trap”:
1. Failure to clearly publicize an at-will disclaimer. Employment at-will disclaimers make it clear that you do not intend to have the handbook  construed as a “contract”

When your in business. Its always a good idea to make sure you have plenty of money in your operations account. Not having enough can really cost you alot of money and hurt you bad. Most banks will charge a $35 NSF fee. If you have 8 of them, that’s a cost of $280. Operation a business with many transactions is alot to maintain.

A nice savings to help you is to have your checking account linked to your business savings account. If  you run into financial problems, you can depend on a back up plan, and would cost alot less. Using a great accounting program like Peachtree Quantum by sage will help you to know what you really have in your account.

Making the Switch

PeachtreeI’ve been employed as an office assistant at a large metropolitan law firm for many years. I handle both payroll and billing in addition to reception duties. Through force of habit, I became accustomed to the conventions of QuickBooks software – it was just what the office had always used. When my boss announced that we would be updating our system to use Peachtree, I was worried. How long was it going to take me to get all of the accounts back up to speed?

To my surprise, it’s simple to transfer QuickBooks data files over to a Peachtree accounting program. In fact, the latter program comes complete with a tutorial that updates your system step by step. I had my new accounting system up and running in a matter of minutes, and I’ve been pleased with the comparatively user-friendly interface.

Keeping up with your inventory with Peachtree

Peachtree Accounting Software does an excellent job keeping up with the inventory. If you buy the same product, but in different qty’s with a difference in the price, it will tell you how much you have made on that qty. It offers FIFO and LIFO. If your dealing with lawn mowers, it offers a serial # control as well. That is an excellent thing to use to help your customers with the warranty. Of course theirs so much more.

Peachtree by sage will allow you to put in orders automatically for the inventory. You can do a detail report of what customer bought what. When your doing an invoice, it will show you what you have on hand, on order, and where the inventory is located at in the warehouse. When you need to do an inventory adjustment, it has a box for the adjustment and the reason why. Thats nice to have.

Careful when posting blogs or your business information on public websites where others can use it against you. You dont want to put too much of your personal or business information onto tweeter, myspace, or face book. YES Its good for passing along information, but thats where things can be a little rough at times. Tweeter has recently been suied for alot of money. You can use the public sites to help your business get off the ground but just gota watch what you say.

Using the basic information is ok, but dont put your self at jeopardy for failure. Same thing when your doing the business accounting. You have to make sure your business is in the right hands with your employees and especially your accountant. Using peachtree by sage is a great accounting program to use. You can assign projects and see if it was completed and who is responsible.

About Peachtree

Brief History of Peachtree by Sage

1970s

The Computer System Center (TCS), founded in 1976 by Ron Roberts, Steve Mann, Mike Jones and Ben Dyer, was Atlanta’s first computer store where the accounting software, Peachtree, was created. Retail Sciences, Inc. purchases the accounting software that becomes Peachtree Software.

1980′s

Peachtree Software makes a secret deal with IBM to create the accounting software bundled on the first IBM PC. The first IBM PC ships August 12, 1981 and Peachtree Software is included.

Peachtree Software is purchased by Intelligent Systems, who lowers the price to $200 and sells it via a direct marketing ad in the Wall Street Journal – beginning an innovative revolution in small business accounting software.

1990′s

Peachtree introduces the first accounting software for Windows in 1991. Peachtree acquires One-Write Plus and launches Peachtree Office Accounting, the first open architecture accounting software for small businesses.

Automatic Data Processing (ADP) acquires Peachtree Software in 1994, and sells it to The Sage Group, plc in 1999.

2000′s

Sage introduces the Peachtree industry vertical solutions for accountants, construction, nonprofits, distribution and manufacturing.

Sage introduces outsourced payroll services and Direct Deposit services for Peachtree customers.

Sage introduces Peachtree by Sage – Quantum, an affordable next step accounting solution for companies that have outgrown the capacity of the current Peachtree product line or other similar small business accounting solutions. Peachtree Quantum has introduced new functionality and scales to 40 users.

If you own a business, and you have others that rely on you, why not pay attention and do the right thing. What is that? Making sure that when your customers place an order, that the order is correct. Its ok to make a mistake, and then corect it, but when it happens over and over, then its time for a change.

I had place an order for some checks with a vendor. That vendor allowed split shipments to save more in the long run. Well they shipped the entire order to the customer. It was corrected, but they shipped the order out again, and was the wrong color. So now, I have to give them a call back to get the correct color again. They have lost my trust and business. So if you really want your business to grow, do what is right, and offer your customers the best. One way to make sure your doing what is right for your customers is having a great accounting program like peachtree quantum and the people that is working for you. The best service and making the orders correct is a great way of doing good business.

How Easy is it to Switch from Quickbooks to Peachtree Accounting?

Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I choose Peachtree over QuickBooks?Peachtree products provide robust functionality in inventory, job costing, time and billing, fixed assets, and Internet tools. In addition, Peachtree products are strong and flexible in system accounting functions, such as Double Entry Accounting, Import/Export, Fiscal Year Structure, Security and Posting Options. Peachtree products also provide advanced analysis tools to help small businesses make informed decisions on a daily basis.

Can I convert my QuickBooks data myself, or do I have to pay someone to do it for me?Peachtree by Sage 2010 includes a QuickBooks conversion utility that is designed to make it easy to convert your QuickBooks data yourself. The simple wizard format steps you through the process and explains each of your options.

How much of my QuickBooks data will be converted?Peachtree will convert both lists (such as customers, inventory items, and accounts) and historical transactions (such as invoices, receipts, and deposits), although payroll transactions cannot be converted. See a complete list of the types of data that can be converted.

Can I choose to convert only some of my QuickBooks data?Yes. You can choose to convert lists and transactions, lists only, or even transactions from a specific date.

I don’t use account numbers in QuickBooks. Am I required to set these up before I can convert to Peachtree? No. During the conversion process Peachtree will automatically create account numbers, or “account IDs,” for any QuickBooks accounts that do not have them. You are able to review and edit these account IDs during or after the conversion.

How much time will it take to convert my data? The amount of time required to convert data varies greatly and depends on how much data will be converted and the speed of your computer. You can expect an average size database to take up to an hour to convert.

Do I need to install Peachtree on the computer where QuickBooks is installed?Yes. Peachtree must be installed on the same computer as QuickBooks because portions of the conversion require QuickBooks to be running. Once the conversion is complete, you can place the new Peachtree company file in any local or network location that Peachtree can access.

Will all my payroll history convert?Payroll transaction history in QuickBooks is protected in such a way that the Peachtree conversion utility cannot convert it. The conversion process makes it easy for you to set up your payroll in Peachtree by guiding you through the steps of setting company deductions and year-to-date earnings.

Can I convert from QuickBooks 2003?No. Peachtree 2010 will only convert from QuickBooks 2005 through 2009.

Can I convert Quicken? No. Peachtree 2010 will only convert QuickBooks Basic through Enterprise.

Peachtree Quantum is released for 2010

I’ve been reviewing Peachtree accounting software for over 15 years now, and it remains a formidable competitor to Intuit’s market-leader QuickBooks. More than anything, Peachtree by Sage is known for accounting accumen and depth; it’s–arguably–as easy to use as QuickBooks, though its look and feel aren’t quite as elegant.

Sage North America today announced its 2010 line of Peachtree by Sage — five core products whose upgrade path can take a small business from the entrepreneur/startup stage to nearly midrange territory.
img_quantum2010

Sage’s five products are Peachtree First Accounting, Peachtree Pro Accounting, Peachtree Complete Accounting, Peachtree Premium Accounting, and Peachtree Quantum. Prices start at $99.99 and go up to $4,450.

New features improve internal communication and collaboration. They include a new Customer Manager Center, enhanced transaction histories, and new business analytics. Additional improvements have been made in the areas of backup, employee management, and password security. You can now have two companies open simultaneously and assign multiple contacts per company.

Peachtree Quantum has added more sophisticated features, like a new dashboard and the Order Process Workflow tool, which tracks the status of the order process so nothing gets missed.

How Marketing Plans Work

posted by Happy Business Guy @ 10:27 PM
Tuesday, June 30, 2009

Planning your company’s marketing program is a process much like the one you go through as a young person deciding what you want to do with your life. You go through phases of:

  • learning and discovery of the world around you
  • development and self-realization of skills, strengths and weaknesses
  • goal setting based on those strengths and weaknesses
  • setting strategies for achieving your goals
  • planning your attack
  • working through that plan to make it happen

This mirrors the process your business must go through in planning your marketing. In this article, we’ll talk about how to know your business, know your market, understand your strengths and weaknesses, and find the opportunities within those strengths and weaknesses in order to plan your marketing and make it happen. We’ll also give you some tips and rules from which all marketers can benefit.

What is Marketing?

According to the Dictionary of Marketing Terms, marketing is “the process of planning and executing the conception, pricing, promotion, and distribution of ideas, goods, and services to create exchanges that satisfy individual and organizational goals.”

What does that mean to you? It means marketing encompasses everything you have to do in coming up with a needed product or service, making potential customers aware of it, making them want it, and then selling it to them.

So then, is sales considered “marketing”? Is advertising “marketing”? Often, you’ll hear sales functions referred to as “marketing,” but really sales is just a part of the larger marketing process, as is advertising. In the olden days (back 30 or 40 years), marketing did consist primarily of sales. Rather than having marketing departments, companies had sales departments with an advertising manager and someone who did market research. Sometimes they added a promotions manager or hired an agency to handle advertising and promotions.

Things began changing as some companies grew larger and larger and began offering many product lines that warranted having their own brand managers, market segment managers and many more specialized positions that addressed and mulled over the needs of their particular markets. The need for a marketing department began to be seen as a vital part of business. The marketing department also takes most of the blame if a product (or company) isn’t successful, regardless of whether or not the fault actually lies there.

Everyone is Responsible for Marketing

The thing to remember is that, in reality, the marketing department crosses over into the entire company. Everyone in your company should be aware of the marketing message, visions, and goals of the company, and should reflect that message in everything they do that is related to the product and your customers. This is referred to as Integrated Marketing Communications, and means that every contact with customers and potential customers, whether it’s through advertising, personal contact, or other means, should carry a consistent message about the company and product. In effect, every employee is a sales person, and every employee is a customer service representative. If they give mixed messages about what your business is, then your customers and potential customers will have a distorted picture. Having your marketing budget can be monitored in peachtree quantum.

Any bad experience a customer has with your company can affect future sales from that customer, as well as the people they tell about the experience. This bad experience can be anything from a rude receptionist, to poor packaging of a product. There are so many variables that effect whether a potential customer becomes a customer, or a current customer remains a customer, that the marketing department shouldn’t always be held accountable for the total success of a product. But in many companies, that is the case.

Helping your business to succeed is always a good thing. Are you a small business owner, that is on the go alot? Does your office stay at the office? What would you do if you need to get a hold to customers when your away from the office? Wow..thats alot of good questions to ask. If your a small business owner, and less than 5 employees, you need help. If your office is always busy, but you need to get a hold to yhour customers, the best way is to use a computer.

Having a blackberry smart phone away from your office can only do so much. So why not, buy a lap top and use it on the road. Its a great thing to have for email, fax and processing orders for your customers, if you cant get back to the office asap. Its a wonderful thing to have if you have a family emergency and need to work at the same time. Have your accounting program, like peachtee quantum installed so you can do your business.
